Le Grain d'Annette (for Annette Vande Gorne)
For Annette Vande Gorne.
This short piece (2012) is a sonic gift for the 65th birthday anniversary of Annette Vande Gorne, a dear friend and teacher. Memories of fragmented piano notes, whispers, voices and all short of sounds are combined for the composition.
Le Grain de Bruxelles
A sonic postcard of Brussels from my early period (mid 90s) when I was experimenting with extreme changes in dynamics. Soft was soft and loud was loud! Good old pre-compression times!
Rhapsody On A Windy Night (tape version)
The piece is inspired by T.S. Eliot's poem "Rhapsody on a Wind Night". The original score was for soprano, 2 percussionists, 1 narrator and tape. However, one week before the performance at the Sadler's Wells in London, I discovered (rather late and after a letter by Faber & Faber) that Eliot forbade any music set for his poems. The performance was a disaster!
The main sonic material derived from Derek Shiel's sound sculptures (used also by Denis Smalley in Base Metals).
It was commissioned by ‘Sculpted Sound Composers Competition’. It was shortlisted at the Sculpted Sound Composers Competition award.
